One of my personal favourites i just love the film.
Love the shots. Love the use of sound. love the soundtrack. lighting. everything.
the acting is okay but yeah direction and everything else is on point. Very true to the book and just great feel.
which reminds me that zach has my virgin suicide book. i would like to read it again so when you are done !

I re-watched a Russian movie called "Cuckoo" with Meg the other night. Excellent, excellent stuff. I had actually forgotten I'd seen it, because it had been five or six years. It's set in World War II, and is about a Russian and Finnish soldier who somehow end up with a Laplandish women (Laplanders are an ethnic minority in Finland that have their own language and, in 1943, were still living in huts and farming fish by the side of rivers) and none of them speak the others language. It's obviously a lot more complicated than that, but I don't want to give it away. It's rad.

Also just watched "The Hangover" and didn't stop laughing the entire time. Holy fuck is that movie funny.

Hangover is solid fo sho. Watched Running Scared with Jeremy and Ian... Fuck that movie was intense. Probably one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen in a movie as well (albeit the height of disturbing things I've seen in movies is saw movies, hostel movies, etc.) Paul Walker doesn't suck, which is weird...

Excited for Sofia's new movie? comes out sometime in 2010.
I should watch Lost In Translation sometime this week.
Yeah VS. love that movie/soundtrack/book. I should try reading that book while listening to the soundtrack on vinyl.

Saw Eraserhead, first time I've ever watched a David Lynch movie. The kind of shit that will haunt your dreams for the rest of your life. One of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. Totally worth watching.

The only David Lynch flick I've ever enjoyed the whole way through was Blue Velvet. Otherwise, I think he just tries WAY too hard. Twin Peaks is fucking rad, though.

Are you serious? This was the most unintelligible, tacky piece of "horror" I have seen all year. I urge you to rewatch this and not laugh every time Stephen McHattie botches a word. By the end of this movie, I actually apologized to everyone I was watching it with for basing it on the trailer. Terrible. Truly awful. Cronference.

Lost Highway is a mess and I havn't seen his latest, but I like a few Lynch films. I enjoyed Blue velvet, Wild At Heart, Twin Peaks (film and TV series), and the Straight Story, and thought Mullholland Drive was ok. Never liked Dune, but to be fair his vision of the movie was really long and it suffered by being edited to hell.

Yeah, Straight Story and Wild At Heart are amazing.

Aiden, you are literally the first person I've met that didn't like Pontypool. The entirety of the staff at my work, which include two film majors LOVED this movie, and it got 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. I will now say it: you are so very, very, VERY wrong. YOU should watch it again, and look for the sub text within the film, specifically towards the concepts of language as virus/carrier of disease. ALSO, this was simply part one in a trilogy, so take that into consideration as well. FINALLY, again considering the language based sub text, I feel fairly confident that Stephen McHattie was purposefully mispronouncing words. JUST SAYIN'.

PS You should also come to the show on Saturday. I'm much better at discussing these sorts of things face to face.

Those dudes should throw in their film majors (I kid). Pontypool, I'm going to come out and say it, is in my Top 5 least enjoyable films I've seen this past year. That list also includes Da Hip Hop Witch. How can you defend such a boring, unrewarding "study in tension"? That's the kind of movie you get when the novelist rewrites his own work for the screen in 48 hours: A threadbare plot with half completed ideas and characters. I am a gigantic movie fan, of every genre.. When I apologize for a film, it's bad.

Yeah, sorry Aidan, I just can't agree with you on this. Pontypool was fantastic. And "Da Hip Hop Witch" sounds EQUALLY fantastic.

You're in the minority here Aidan. Pontypool was pretty good.
